What we’ve been working on at Box.net

New features in Web Documents: View collaborator edits in real-time
It’s now easier than ever to work on a Web Document with multiple collaborators: when you are finished editing, or wish to pass control of the document on to someone else, simply switch to the Preview pane. When someone else takes control of the web document and starts making changes, you will be able to watch their edits in real-time. We have also made other enhancements to Web Documents, including improved spell-checking and activity tracking.

Improved tagging: Making files even easier to find
Box has long offered the ability to tag files. With this update, we have simplified how you add tags to files and folders and made tags even more visible as you browse through all your content. To tag any file, simply click on the tag icon and enter a new tag, or select from existing ones. You also have the option to display tags while you’re in List View, providing quick links to other files tagged with the same phrase.

Box for Salesforce.com CRM: Integrate Box with Salesforce and get unlimited storage
Box.net is now available on Salesforce’s Force.com AppExchange. We are also offering unlimited storage exclusively to Box Enterprise customers that use Salesforce CRM, so you can easily share, access and work with presentations, product datasheets, how-to videos, agreements, contracts and all your Box files, right inside Salesforce. You can learn more at http://www.box.net/salesforce or just give us a call at 1-866-495-0635.

New OpenBox Action: Create PDFs of Box files with Drawloop
Using two new services from Drawloop, you can easily convert all your files on Box into polished PDFs you can share with anyone. The first, “Convert to PDF” is a free service that lets you convert individual files, including Microsoft Office, image and other file types to PDF. A more advanced service, “Combine to PDF” lets you select multiple files (even a combination of different file formats) and convert them all into a single PDF. This is available as a subscription service from Drawloop ($1 per user/month), which you can check out with their 30-day free trial. Learn about all our OpenBox services.

Google Docs Viewer: View PDFs, PowerPoints and images
Google’s been a big part of our family of OpenBox services - you can send file and folder links directly to Gmail or Google Apps Mail and view download stats on files with Google Analytics. Now we’re happy to add Google Docs Viewer as the newest OpenBox service, which lets you view PDFs, PowerPoint presentations and TIFF images with Google Docs. Once you add the service and want to preview one of these files, just click on the blue actions button and select “View with Google Docs.”

New OpenBox Action: Print and ship documents on Box to FedEx
We’re pleased to introduce a new OpenBox service, FedEx Office Print Online, which lets you print and ship documents to any of FedEx Office’s 1,600 U.S. locations directly from their Box.net accounts. After adding the FedEx Office Print Online service, pick a file that you would like to print and select ‘Print to FedEx Office’.  Enter promo code BOX015 when placing your order to receive 15% off!

OpenBox Mobile: Making mobile content accessible and sharable
People are creating all kinds of content on their mobile devices, but there’s never been an easy way to manage and share all that content from one place. We wanted to change that. OpenBox Mobile gives iPhone and other mobile app developers free, easy-to-use tools to integrate Box.net’s content management and sharing capabilities in their mobile applications. iPhone apps like iThoughts, iBlueSky, Smart Recorder and Readdle now feature Box.net integration. Other iPhone apps like Quickoffice, iRec, mySticky and JotNot will feature Box.net integration soon. If you’re a mobile app developer, visit our OpenBox Mobile page to learn how you can get started with the OpenBox program and integrate Box.net into your application.

Fuze Meeting: Share and discuss files over a web conference
We have added a new OpenBox action from Fuze Meeting, which brings its web conferencing and real-time collaboration capabilities to Box. Using Fuze Meeting, you can start a web conference and share files in your Box account in one click. It’s a great way to share presentations, project plans and any of your content with colleagues, clients and partners, wherever they are. You can add this service to your Box account by visiting the OpenBox services page.

Cool Firefox Extension: Save documents on the web to Box
The Open IT Online Firefox extension lets you save documents on the web straight to your Box account. If you regularly share, for example, research documents from the web with colleagues or a project team, it’s a great time-saver. It’s also handy if you use webmail and want to save attached files straight to Box. Instead of downloading a file to your computer and uploading it to Box, you can simply click on the file and choose the option for saving the file to your Box account.

New Email Preferences: Choose what emails you get and when
We rolled out a new set of advanced email preferences to give you more flexibility in getting the notifications you want, when you want them. Of particular note is a new setting that lets you receive notifications in one “daily digest,” making it even more streamlined. You can set these preferences at the account level (under Settings) and for a specific folder (go to Folder Options > Email preferences).

New Quick Search Feature: Find your files faster
We have enhanced search to help you find files faster and navigate directly to the content you want to see. As you type in a search query, a small window under the search field displays results dynamically. Using the list window, you can either hit “Enter” to display all the search results or click directly on the file or folder you want to see. It’s fast!

Box.net vs. SharePoint: Our “Sharing Should Be Simple” campaign
We have always believed that sharing should be simple and we’ve started a public campaign to get the word out. We’re going toe-to-toe with Microsoft SharePoint and want you to get involved. Visit www.box.net/simple and share it with all your SharePoint-using friends!

Feature enhancement: Full-size image previews
You can now preview a full-sized gallery version of all images under 5MB in size (a limit we plan on increasing in the future). To use this feature, simply click on an image - GIF, JPG or PNG - under 5MB in size, which will take you to preview mode. From here, you can click on ‘Full Size’, which you’ll find on the upper left-hand side of the image to display the gallery view.

Feature enhancement: More control for comments and discussions
We have added a little more control to this feature, which now allows all discussion, file or folder owners to delete comments made by other users. In addition, users can now edit their own comments. To delete a comment made on your discussions, folders or files, just click on the ‘X’ associated with the comment. To edit a comment, select ‘Edit’ shown at the end of your comment.

Tasks: Be more productive in creating your content
Tasks is a simple way to manage workflow around creating, reviewing and finalizing content. For new or existing files, you can assign yourself, someone else or a group of people to approve/reject, review or update a file. To create a task, simply hover your mouse over any file, click “Tasks” and select what kind of task you would like to assign. You can create multiple tasks and even include comments.

Global Folders: Share your content with the world…in seconds
Global Folders lets you take any folder of content and share it as a public web page with your very own personalized, static URL. It only takes a few clicks and no web or HTML coding experience whatsoever. At the “All Files” level, click on the “Share” button and select “Customize this address and make global”. From here you can select the Global folder option, create your own URL and you’re set to go.

Custom Branding: Modify Box to match your company’s look and feel
Box Business-edition customers can quickly customize the look and feel of the Box UI to better reflect their company’s brand whenever they share content. You can customize the Box header and footer with a company logo, color scheme and other basic information, like a link to the company homepage. To turn on this feature, contact your Box account rep. Once it’s activated, you can use the “Enterprise Settings” menu in the Admin Console view and click on the “Branding” section to start customizing.

Feature enhancement: Send less emails to collaborators
When you upload a new file, you’ll notice a new “Don’t Email” checkbox that appears whenever you use the “Add Files” function. This allows you to turn off email notifications to all your Collaborators when uploading a file into a Shared (or blue) folder. Whenever you upload a file, just click the checkbox next to “Do not email collaborators about this upload”.
